Hi girls, here are some debunked myths that will help you achieve your fat loss goal, if you choose not to believe in them. :-)
Myth No. 3 - High reps with low weight will "tone" your muscle
With all the misinformation out there, a girl workout usually consist lifting 1lb dumbbells for an infinite amount of repetitions. This is an ineffective way to burn fat nor building muscle to give the body a "toned" look.
The fitness industry for women knows well enough that all women are intimidated by the word "muscle". So instead of that, they use the word "tone". It is basically "low body fat with a certain amount of muscle". In order to achieve that, one must lift a weight heavy enough to build muscle, in which the exercise will burn much more calories than lifting those pink baby dumbbells. In fact having more muscle means a higher metabolism (it costs more energy to maintain the body), which in turn burn more fat, even when you sleep. Who doesn't want to burn fat while sleeping? :-D

Myth No. 2 - Burn belly fat with sit ups
You cannot get your female abs doing sit-ups! You are probably misled by all the infomercials promoting their abs machine gimmick, which claims to target the belly fat by doing abs exercises. This couldn't be further from the truth. Spot reduction is a myth that has been debunked over and over again. Just like peeling the skin of the onion, body fat has to be lost as a whole. This is made effective with the correct diet and exercise program. In addition to that, the exercise program has to utilize compound movements, working out various part of the body which will burn more calories. Comparing this to sit-ups, which does little to nothing to help making the stomach look better.
Myth No. 1 - Lifting weights will make me look big, bulky and manly
No it won't! There are various reasons to support this:
- Women does not have as much testosterone as men. Testosterone is the main hormone stimulating muscle growth. Averagely, men have ten times as much testosterone than women.
- To be big, bulky and manly as those displayed in the magazines, a women must conduct a very strict diet and training regime, coupled with anabolic steroids. Yes, those women took steroids.
- In addition, there is a difference in muscle mass distribution in men and women, particularly the upper body
So why women are still afraid to lift weights? Mainly because the sight of professional bodybuilders with big lean muscle cause them to think that they are going to get muscular the moment they touch weights. They do not know how much discipline, effort and motivation the bodybuilders must have, and how much they have gone through to achieve those body. Not to mention that the bodybuilders have to have superior genetics to be able to compete professionally.
